MAYOR, CITY COUNCIL, AND CITY STAFF RECOGNIZED AS

CITY OF DISTINCTION

At last evening’s Antioch City Council meeting, Roy Peacock — East County Ministries President, presented Mayor Mary Rocha, City Council and City Staff with a “City of Distinction” certificate. This certificate was awarded to the City of Antioch because, Antioch is “A city that participates in and practices a well-planned Prayer Breakfast patterned after the National Prayer Breakfast held annually in Washington, DC, that lifts up the Spiritual heritage of our nation, and presents God and country.”

This certificate has been awarded to less than 50 cities nationwide by the nationwide Prayer Breakfast Network from Placentia, California. The nationwide Prayer Breakfast Network has a goal of presenting this certificate to only 3,000 cities nationwide in the next 5 years. Peacock stated, “Even though there may be many cities that have prayer breakfasts, not many become a “City of Distinction.”

East County Ministries is sponsoring the Third Annual Antioch Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast on Thursday, April 13, 2000, at 7:00 AM at Humphrey’s On the Delta ending at 9:00 AM. Our guest speaker this year will be Dr. Arlene Kaiser. Dr. Kaiser is an assistant principal in a high school in the Fremont Unified School District. Last year she was selected as Teacher of the Year for Alameda County. Our goal is to not only bring in a guest speaker and provide breakfast, but to do as 1 Timothy 2:1-4 says:

“I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone — for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth.”

We want this breakfast to enhance and encourage prayer for our Mayor, community leaders, our State, and our Nation.

To date, there have been nearly 100 tickets sold. There is still room for more. The fee for sponsoring a table this year is only $150 for a table of 10 or $15.00 per person. If interested in attending, please call us at (925) 754-6818.
